PRIDE Week is all about colour, celebration, positivity and spreading love, but it’s also incredibly important to show members of the LGBTQIA+ community that they are supported and that if necessary, services are available and accessible. We’ve compiled a list of some amazing Australian organisations that have specific support services for the LGBTQIA+ community to encourage everyone to seek help and speak up!
Headspace have recently launched ‘Oheadspace’ which is a platform for all things gender and sexuality. With group chats where you can read the transcript later, and spaces where you can curate your own pack of information on whatever you like, this service is accessible to all, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In addition to this, Headspace have also created IELLEN (The Inner Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network) for young LGBTQIA+ people in the inner east, as well as the Queer Health Collaborations with many resources for young Transgender people.
QLife provides anonymous and free peer support and referral for members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Australia. They discuss topics such as sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.
ACON are an organisation based in NSW who pride themselves on helping all members of the LGBTQIA+ community, in particular those with HIV by assisting them to take control of their mental health.
MINUS18 are an organisation who empower the youth of the LGBTQIA+ community by providing them peer support and services via multiple means.
Switchboard provide help to members of the LGBTQIA+ community but emphasising that nothing is off limits. This organisation provides a place for calm words when they are needed most.
