Pledge 5 is a social media campaign (mostly on @pledge_5 Instagram) promoting the rebuilding of communities after COVID-19 isolation. We are aiming to prompt students to reach out and offer support to friends and family. The action is simple: take a photograph of yourself pledging 5 hours to the cause and nominating a friend to do so also, with the hashtag #pledge5. The 5 hour timeframe is a guideline and not a strict commitment.
Inspiration can be found on the ipledge5hours.org website. Some examples are; cooking dinner for your housemates during their exam preparation, walking the dog while your mum is still working from home, and reaching out for coffee catch-ups with friends. These are important acts of kindness and support that assist in rebuilding closeness after COVID-19 lockdown.
DUSA VP Welfare and student representatives have been working closely on the website and social media building, as we are invested in strengthening our university communities and making sure no one is left behind now that we are able to pursue fact-to-face contact. The executive, student council and representatives have been pledging their time to the cause via video and photo pledges. The outcome will be a sense of community and social contact after isolation.
