The Deakin Dragons showcased their awesome talent at the UniSport Nationals in Canberra last week, competing against top universities from across Australia. The week-long event saw over 6,000 participants from 42 member universities battle it out in 30 different sports including badminton, netball, basketball, fencing, taekwondo, futsal, tennis, touch football, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.
The Dragons delivered several standout performances, with notable achievements including the Men’s Badminton team securing Division 1 Silver medals, while Men’s Rowing, Women’s Basketball, Men's Tennis and Women's Tennis teams earned Division 1 Bronze. Additionally, the Men’s Basketball and Mixed Netball teams excelled, each bringing home Division 2 Gold medals.
Beyond their impressive results, the Dragons demonstrated exceptional team spirit by attending each other's matches to offer support and encouragement, while also fostering strong bonds within their own teams. This unity not only enhanced their performance on the field but also created a positive and supportive environment throughout the competition. They maintained a friendly rivalry with other teams, exemplified by their tradition of giving hats to opposing players who displayed good sportsmanship.
