We have just wrapped up a very colourful U Belong Week - and enjoyed welcoming everyone to Deakin.
DUSA wants everyone to feel accepted and included and we have absolutely loved to celebrate inclusiveness and diversity with you on campus this year! (Last year we were in iso for it - but let's just pretend that never happened...)
To kick off the week, we had an
exciting and fun Art Workshop in Burwood on Monday. We absolutely love the final U Belong Artwork - see below.
Beats & Eats Events were held on all campuses and included many DUSA Clubs,
Deakin Faculties, Chaplains, and more. Huge shout out from Deakin Music and DUSLA for their fantastic performances!
The Wheelchair Basketball Come &
Try Sessions were very popular and lots of fun on Tuesday at Burwood
Campus, and Wednesday at Waurn Ponds Campus. On Wednesday, we ran an
Online Talent Show in which we had 11 student performers show off their
talents. Boy, do we have some talented Deakin Students! And we finished
off the week with an Online Yoga Session. There sure was something for
everyone this U Belong Week!
Our vision for this U Belong Week was to include our clubs in the week's festivities as much as possible - not only to showcase their club
but also to enhance the week. Deakin University English Language Society
ran an online Australian Language Trivia, all the clubs in
Warrnambool worked together to deliver a Trivia at Brother Fox Bar which
was wildly successful.
Burwood Campus Committee approved a ‘Music Nouveau Party’ but this event was unfortunately cancelled. The Deakin Juggernauts in Geelong have come alive again and hosted a free iPod Shuffle Party at The Inn, with over 500 people attending and over 200 songs submitted. A big Well Done to all clubs involved, we know it’s a lot of work to put on events! If you missed out on this themed week, look out for our next one coming up in September (Self Care Week - we all need it! Events to be released soon). In the meantime, you can find all other upcoming DUSA events here.
This is DUSA’s Queer representative – Vishal (She/He/They). We are so proud of Vishal and these amazing students who came forward to tell LGBTQI+ students from diverse backgrounds – I see you, I support you, I love you. And above all else, YOU BELONG. Vishal has created this video for U Belong Week to collect messages of support and love in languages other than English, with the goal of helping students feel they can be themselves and be proud – of both their culture AND their identity as a LGBTQI+ person. We hope you enjoy watching i!
