It was fantastic to see students come together this week to celebrate inclusiveness and diversity at Deakin. The purpose of DUSA’s U Belong Week is to make sure all students feel included in our community – everyone is welcome and everyone belongs!
Our Beats & Eats events were popular across all campuses with free food, music, live performances and activities. It was a great chance for students to catch up with familiar faces, make new friends, and get to know some of the amazing cultural clubs and people we have at DUSA. Similarly, our Hot Sip Social/MLM & WLW mixers were a great chance for students to enjoy a warm drink, mingle with other students, and learn more about DUSA, Deakin PRIDE, and the Deakin Geelong Queer Collective.
For a change of pace, the Lacrosse Together and PRIDE Come & Try Netball sessions at Burwood got the heart pumping! Students of all skill level and ability were welcome to come along and try something new, develop skills, meet new people and have a heap of fun!
For those unable to get to campus, our online sessions were a chance to connect and get involved in U Belong Week from any location. The Deakin eSports Association (DESA) ran a successful Online Games Session on Monday, and we ended the week with an Online Chat Session that included a Scavenger Hunt and Speed Friending.
DUSA’s U Belong Week is about fostering connection while celebrating shared experience and the things that make us unique. A huge thank you to our student volunteers, partners, clubs and everyone who helped make T1 U Belong Week a success. We look forward to doing it again in T2!
