U Belong Week 2024 recap

U Belong Week 2024 recap

It was great to see students come together this week to celebrate inclusiveness and diversity at Deakin. The purpose of DUSA’s U Belong Week is to make sure all students feel included in our community – everyone is welcome, and everyone belongs!

We kicked off U Belong Week with our Hug in a Mug event at Burwood campus. Students had the chance to enjoy a warm drink and biscuits, listen to LoFi tunes, and take part in a variety of activities including puzzles, art activations, and diversity bingo.

Our always popular Beats & Eats took place across all Deakin campuses with free food, live music and engaging activities. Food on offer included soft shell tacos (Burwood), sushi (Geelong), tortilla wraps (Warrnambool), as well as West African doughnuts at our Burwood and Geelong campuses. Students had the chance to try tile art, rangoli art, and activities like giant Jenga, diversity bingo, and a world map activation that celebrated the variety of backgrounds that make up the fabric of Deakin.

Our online events were both fun and educational. The Deakin eSports Association (DESA) ran a successful Online Gaming Session where attendees played a variety of Jackbox games. We also held a Bystander Intervention Taster session to give students the tools to effectively step in and support others in challenging situations.

A huge thank you to our student volunteers, partners, clubs and everyone who helped make U Belong Week 2024 a success. We look forward to doing it all again in 2025!
