Our DUSA Pride Week has officially ended, and what a week it was! Our campuses lit up in a rainbow of colours, and our Deakin community got into the festive spirit with glitter adornments, and bright attires as we came together to celebrate remembrance, love and acceptance in support of our LGBTIQ+ community.
Across the week, we hosted a wide range of fun events both on-campus and online to celebrate this occasion in a fun, cheerful and colourful fashion. Here’s a little recap of what went down:
Rainbow celebrations
Our rainbow celebrations saw our students come together to embrace some live entertainment, free food, and the various activities on offer. With some sports, competitions, and even a pride station to get people into the spirit - the afternoon really came alive.
Movie sessions
There’s no better way to commemorate pride week, than movie sessions with friends. The DUSA member free screenings of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at Village cinemas got the laughter going, and the online screening of Netflix’s A Secret Love was inspirational as we witnessed the perseverance of love.
Educational and social events
Students had the opportunity to attend an educational online session to learn about the difference between sex, gender expression and sexual orientation with our LGBTIQ+ Awareness Workshop, and a Social Zoom Session was held, a space where students could just hang out and conversate.
We want to send all our love to our LGBTIQ+ ambassadors, and a send out a big thank you to all our students who participated and got involved to make it another successful Pride Week here at DUSA. We can’t wait to be back next year, with more fun, more cheer, and bolder and brighter colours.
