This year’s theme Better Togetheris representing the concept that volunteering brings people together; it builds communities and creates a better society for everyone. First of all, we would like to say thanks to our fabulous volunteers and acknowledge your fantastic work. DUSA, as an organisation, and our student community wouldn't be the same without you - and your resilience and commitment have proven that we surely are better together!
At DUSA we currently have many students who volunteer their time to contribute to the student community;
DUSA Crew Event Volunteers – support the event delivery for all DUSA events year-round on each campus. As an example we had 87 students contribute over 2,500 hours across the T1 OFEST period in 2022.
DUSA Sports Ambassadors – play a pivotal role in co-creating social sport events across Deakin Campuses, this year alone they have delivered over 20 sports events and engaged over 900 students in the process.
Sports Team Managers – support the Deakin Dragons sports teams to compete at Victorian and Interstate Intervarsity competitions such as the University Nationals to be held this year in Perth during October.
OCamp Leaders & Tour Guides – co-create student-led camp/tour opportunities to showcase our great state, build social connections and bring the vibe to everything they do.
DUSA Clubs & Society executives & committee – with over 100 clubs across our 5 locations at Deakin, DUSA C&S executives and their wider committees volunteer their time to lead student-led clubs that create opportunities for over 8,500 students who make up their membership base. Traditionally these clubs would deliver in excess of 2,500 student event occasions in a given year creating a student experience that is truly student-led.
Overall the total number of volunteers that support DUSA’s programs and services is in excess of 550 students.
Not a volunteer with us yet - but curious? We would love to grow our pool of volunteers so that we can provide more experiences for all Deakin Students! Learn more about volunteering at DUSA here.
Why join? Besides the obvious around meeting new people and gaining new skills in the tasks that you perform being a volunteer in any form creates a sense of community, builds our collective resilience, and makes us feel happier, healthier, and more connected to our community here at DUSA.
