On Friday 7th March over 50 of our students had the chance to get up close to Australian wildlife, take in some stunning coastal views and make some new friends along the way.
The day started with a trip to Moonlit Sanctuary where participants had the chance to interact with native Australian wildlife – even hand feeding some of the animals! Students then travelled to The Nobbies, a place renowned for its penguin and seal populations as well as its incredible coastal views. The trip concluded at the Penguin Parade where students were able to witness the world-famous little penguins make their way up the shore to their burrows at dusk. A magical experience for everyone!
Some thoughts on the trip from this year’s participants:
“It was a highlight to see everyone excited at Moonlit Sanctuary, especially when feeding kangaroos and getting up close with koalas. But the Penguin Parade was truly magical. Watching the little penguins waddle ashore under the night sky was an experience no one will forget. University isn’t just about classes – it’s also about meeting people, experiencing new things, and creating memories. Trips like these help students step out of their comfort zones, explore Victoria’s incredible landscapes, and form friendships that go beyond the classroom.”

“You connect, grow, and create lifelong memories. It’s not just about where you go — it’s about the people you experience it with.” “Thank you, DUSA, for giving us all a day full of smiles, friendship, and unforgettable memories.”
– Hilma
“Witnessing the stunning sunset at Phillip Island, watching the Blue Penguins, and enjoying the beautiful landscapes were some of my favourite moments. However, the best part was the connections I made, receiving warm hugs and heartfelt appreciation from fellow students was priceless. “

DUSA run a range of trips throughout the year where you can have fun and exciting new experiences with fellow Deakin students. The next trip is a Mount Buller Snow Day on Tuesday 7th August with buses departing from Burwood and Waurn Ponds campuses. These trips are very popular so make sure you secure your place before it sells out!
