Club Event of the Month - March

We are happy to announce joint winners for March’s DUSA Club Event of the Month!

Congratulations to the Deakin Women in STEM Society from Burwood for their STEM Women Melbourne Graduate Careers Event, and to Deakin Competitive Robotics from Geelong for their Australian Rover Challenge entry. Read on below to learn more about both events.

Deakin Women in STEM Society | STEM Women Melbourne Graduate Careers Event

The STEM Women Melbourne Graduate Careers Event was a landmark moment for the new club and the wider university community. As the first-ever partnership between STEM Women and an Australian university, the event connected over 50 Deakin students with leading STEM employers – creating invaluable opportunities for networking, inspiration and career exploration.

What made this event truly successful was the student-driven organisation and accessibility. The club arranged a fully sponsored round-trip bus service to ensure all students could attend regardless of financial barriers. The event sold out within days, and the club received overwhelmingly positive feedback from domestic and international student attendees who felt empowered, seen and motivated to pursue their career goals in STEM.

Deakin Competitive Robotics | Australian Rover Challenge

The event marked Deakin’s first ever entry into the Australian Rover Challenge. The Deakin Competitive Robotics club managed to compete in the challenge successfully and score a total of 119.2 points which is incredible for any first entry! The event included seven students from Deakin and allowed many opportunities to engage with students from other universities and space businesses. Most importantly, the event set up a foundation for the Deakin Rover Team to grow in future years and allow many more engineers and students from other study areas to take part in the Rover Program.
