A new decade means brand new resolutions, and we’ve got just the one for you! Follow in the footsteps of Zoe Saheicha and step out of your comfort zone in 2020 by signing up for 3 days of awesome adventure at DUSA’s OCamp. Not sure if OCamp is your vibe? Let our Q&A below convince you why it’s that and so much more.
What are you studying?
I am studying a Bachelor of Zoology and Animal sciences.
How many OCamp’s have you attended?
I have been to two OCamp’s.
Did you attend OCamp as a first year? If so, why did you attend?
I attended OCamp as a first-year because I wanted to make new friends since my high school friends were not going to Deakin (their loss). I wanted to be pushed out of my comfort zone as this was not something I would have normally done and thought it would help with the nerves of transitioning into University (spoiler, it did).
Why did you apply to be an OCamp Leader?
I applied to be a leader because of the great experience I had the year before. It brought me out of my shell and I felt part of a little OCamp family. I wanted others to experience the same thing I did, if not better.
How has OCamp contributed to your overall success at University?
OCamp has completely brought me out of my shell, it made me much more confident. Through OCamp I have gone on to do so many other amazing opportunities with DUSA such as becoming an ambassador, volunteer and a leader on various trips including one to Bryon Bay. I can confidently say that without my decision on attending OCamp I wouldn’t be the Uni student I am today.
Do you feel more connected to University life because of OCamp? Why?
I definitely feel more connected, through DUSA I have met so many more friends that I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I am more willing to come to Uni because it really does feel like my second home.
Why should people sign up for OCamp?
People should sign up because it will truly change your university experience for the better. I personally felt like I grew as a person as it helped me understand my strengths as well as my weaknesses, such as my lack of coordination for the glow party.
What is your best OCamp memory?
My best memory for OCamp was the first night of the 2019 camp. Let’s just say, I don’t think I’ve been that muddy in my life.
