We caught up with DUSA member, Marjorie Devereux to get all the details about why she loves being apart of Deakin’s one and only student association. Find out all the info below!
Please tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Marjorie but I prefer Marj, and I am currently completing my final unit of a Bachelor of Health and Health Promotion degree! I love to travel, and it is a life long dream of mine to visit every continent, – I’m currently up to 4/7. In my spare time I volunteer with Girl Guides Victoria and also perform every year with Whitehorse Showtime.
When/why did you decide to become a DUSA member?
I decided to become a DUSA member even before my first class at Deakin! I remember receiving an email about a DUSA camp for first years, and a discount was being offered to members, so perhaps maybe not the best reason ever but who doesn’t love a discount?
How have you been involved in University life as a DUSA member?
Over the past 4 years, I have been heavily involved with the DUSA OCamp. I first went on the camp in 2017 as a first-year and absolutely loved it. I met 2 of my really great uni friends on the camp, shout out to Rach and Giselle, and it really gave me a kick start to uni life. I loved the camp so much that I decided I wanted to come back but this time as a leader to which I have been for the past 3 years.
How has DUSA helped you create friends and make the most of your University life?
Without DUSA offering OCamp, I don’t think my uni experience would have been the same! I love coming onto campus to meet friends that I have met through DUSA, and I have also gained the confidence to do a lot more with DUSA such as designing my own student trip.
