Breathing a sigh of relief now that exams have officially ended? Forget that summer Europe trip, you can finally let your hair down right here on home soil and make the most of your Uni break from Melbourne, the world’s most liveable city! With restrictions finally being lifted, we want you to remain cautious but also go out into the world, support local businesses and say goodbye to isolation once and for all. Here’s where you’ll find us these holidays…
Isolating in an Igloo
Embrace winter wonderland at The Wharf Hotel by getting cosy underneath a sky of twinkling fairy lights on the banks of the Yarra. For a small amount, you can feast on a three course meal with the girls or feel cosy on a first date at this very unique and insta worthy spot. Around until September 27th, you won’t want to miss this experience.
Movies on Wheels
Fancy an old film or a new blockbuster? You can have both of those and so much more in Dandenong, Coburg or Dromana at the Drive-In cinemas. Feel like you’re in the 50s as you sit in your car, cuddle up to blankets and let the smell of popcorn fill the air. Perfect for groups, couples or singles who want to stay warm, and stay safe at the same time.
Rave in your Ride
As a continuation to the movies on wheels concept, an entertainment company is hosting a series of drive-in events including karaoke sessions, silent-discos, dance parties and gigs all again, from the comfort of your car. Of course there will be a main stage where social distancing can be maintained, but fun like bingo, comedy and stuff for kids can all be enjoyed! Sign up to get priority ticket access today by checking out the Parking Lot Social.
Pack a sleeping bag, gather some mates and say hello to a road trip around what is the best state in the whole nation (we’re not biased of course)! With beautiful sceneries all throughout VIC, camping by the beach or the wilderness is our idea of the great escape. Choose from the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, The Grampians, Lake Eildon and so many more to sit by the fire and snuggle under the stars.
Go nuts at the Gallery
Don’t let the winter blues get to you, indoor activities exist and they’re a heck of a lot of fun. One of our personal faves is the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) which is set to reopen on the 27th of June, perfect timing for an artsy day out whilst you’re on Uni break. Check out Japanese Modernism or Collecting Comme which are here to stay until August onwards. Make a day of it and stop for a quick cuppa or sit down for some lunch!
Freak out for Food
Whether you’re into Bottomless Brunch, Boozy Mexican or All-You-Can-Eat, Melbourne CBD has a range of activities you can do with your mates to celebrate the end of yet another trimester or simply catch up for some sippers. If you love tacos, Bodega Underground on Little Bourke Street has Bottomless Mexi-Brunch and Asian restaurant Gingerboy has an All-You-Can-Eat option!
Local produce, handmade crafts and brews are three of the amazing things you can find at some of the markets in Melbourne! Preston, South Melbourne, Prahran and Queen Victoria and all spots you can indulge in sweets, smell freshly baked bread or admire the crowds of people who are just as much foodies as you (and we) are!
Light it Up
Unfortunately this amazing new concept has been postponed until 2021, but you can see the Royal Botanic Gardens in a whole new light as you wander through the 1.5 kilometre luminous walk. Timed in 15-minute increments and ending at 8:45pm every night, this is the first garden in Australia to host an after-dark installation of light and sound, derived from the UK. Do It Yourself
Feel like staying at home and avoiding the crowds? Well we’ve got plenty of DIY’s to keep your weekdays and weekends busy creating and crafting for yourself, your beloved family and your wacky mates! With many companies creating DIY Pottery Kits, Embroidery Kits and Bubble Tea packs, you’ll have the chance to expand your horizons and maybe learn a new skill or two?
Don’t forget to show DUSA by tagging us on socials how you’re spending your Uni break!
