Why did you design this workshop?
People are increasingly more concerned about the “outsiders”, especially during the COVID-19 era. They believe that the outsiders bring with them the “pollution” from their countries whether in terms of their cultural ideologies or diseases and viruses. Blinded by the over-exaggeration of this conception, the “insiders” or locals fail to see or ignore the positive contributions that the migrants, international students and resettled refugees add to their economy and richer cultural life. There must be more workshops, media and general awareness that fear and hatred of the outside world is unjustified and that we (Australians) must promote a more welcoming society for our guests.
What are you most looking forward to on running this workshop?
I hope most of the people who made it to the workshop will have a positive shift in perspective towards the migrants, international students, and refugees. I hope we will all grow a better understanding regarding the challenges faced by our guests who are here in hope of finding a better future and making a positive contribution to Australia.
Why should people sign up for this workshop?
What is happening in our country is our responsibilities as citizens and residents. What is happening throughout the world is our concern as common humanity. They say that awareness is the first step towards change. A good change is required to make a more peaceful and thriving world where everyone has the opportunity to live a free and happy life.
So, will you make the first step?
What do you love most about DUSA?
