Once again that hideous beast rears its ugly head, the great behemoth that is exams! But luckily with a few clever tips and tricks; and a healthy dose of preparation, we are certain you’re going to ace them!
Tip #1 The Power of the Question
Never, ever be afraid of asking questions. After all, you’re here to learn and a key part of learning is making sure you understand the content. There is no such thing as a stupid question and you will be surprised at how accommodating your tutors will be when you ask. We’re not surprised, because they’re all amazing; but you might be.
Tip #2 The Power of the Question 2: I Still Know What Your Answer was Last Summer
Half the time exam papers have the answers to questions within other questions. Use that 15 minutes reading time to lock down key pieces of information and then use them to your advantage. For example, a long answer question could give information that answers an earlier multiple-choice question; it really is just that easy! Keep your eyes peeled for these little gems and it’ll be a massive benefit.
Tip #3 Time Management
Do you have exciting plans with the lads/lasses but worried about falling behind on study? Never fear because all you have to do is create a study plan that works for you and stick to it. If you have plans with all your compadres then get your study out of the way beforehand. The hard part is the discipline, but if you’re able to hold the line you’ll be one happy camper come exam time.
Tip #4 Location, Location, Location
It’s always a good idea to go ahead and scope out where your exam is located, especially if you’ve never been there before. Arrive 30 minutes early, nab a parking spot and lock down a quiet spot to compose yourself and take a breather. There is nothing more soul crushing then studying for a month only to not be allowed into your exam because you were late.
Tip #5 Like the Sun, You Will Rise Again
If worse comes to worst and you don’t achieve your desired mark, don’t freak out! You can always retake a subject and with all the benefits of prior knowledge. It’s like living your life all over again but with inside knowledge from the future. Besides, there’s no point crying over spilt milk…our best bet is to get back on the horse and try again!
Exams are a stressful time and there is no doubt you are going to feel that weight, but with your family, friends, peers and DUSA behind you, you have got the best chance in the world. So, keep with your studies and good luck!
