Brace yourselves because we’re going back to the best week ever and recapping all the awesome moments from OWeek 2020. So, get comfy and read on!
After a very long wait, OWeek came full steam ahead with a sea of fresh and returning Deakin students soaking up some rays as they strolled down and around Burwood, Waterfront and Warrnambool for a week of Market Day magic! With Oak Milk, Nintendo, Vanessa Bus and Officeworks all making guest appearances, there was no shortage of freebies, giveaways and competitions for all. DUSA was even lucky enough to have a special visit from Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin who was given a guided tour of the OWeek festivities by none other than President of the Student Council, Tiarnan Cleary.
As the sun set and campuses went quiet, groups of students gathered at Billboards night club for our infamous Glow Party, where fluorescent green, pink and yellow glow sticks filled a dance floor of white!
Market Day magic made a radical return at Burwood whilst the celebrations were kicked-off at the Waurn Ponds campus. Day two saw Morgan’s Walk and Union Green yet again filled with students mingling under the sunshine, listening to some tunes and enjoying some elite live entertainment from Karate to Cheerleading performances.
There was no stopping as day turned to night and students across all campuses gathered for more fun and excitement. Burwood welcomed Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’ and Kevin Hart on campus for a screening of ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’, whilst Geelong showed no sign of slowing down with everyone getting virtual at the Arcade Wars, and feeling that rhythm at the Jungle Party. Warrnambool also got Wet‘n’Wild at their infamous Pool Party, enjoying pizza and mocktails!
A happy hump day it sure was as Wednesday was as wonderous as the rest with Beats’n’Eats blasting on campus at Warrnambool. With the Twilight Market at Burwood becoming an afternoon extravaganza, students were able to watch the sunset and enjoy some tasty food trucks and spectacular stalls! Meanwhile, Geelong was roaring with ‘The Lion King’ being showcased at the Movie on the Green whilst the smell of popcorn filled the campus corridors.
Thursday marked the most popular and renowned event on the DUSA OWeek Calendar, the sell-out Mystery Bus Tour at Geelong and Warrnambool! DUSA obsessed over the outfits rocked by students, which ranged from Where’s Wally to Tradie and Bogan, as we watched the bus make its way around the town.
The Beach Party also absolutely blew our socks off with Will Sparks dominating the decks and pumping up the crowd at Crown Casino, alongside a list of other jaw-dropping DJs.
What a way to kick off the new decade! OWeek 2020 was everything we expected it to be and so much more. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back next year for another week of festivities and good vibes!
